Dr. Jamie Newman started as a faculty member in the School of Biological Sciences at Louisiana Tech in the Fall of 2013.  Dr. Newman earned her BA in Biology from Amherst College and her PhD in Biology from MIT.  Dr. Newman has an active research lab of undergraduate and graduate research assistants focused on understanding mechanisms that regulate gene expression in stem cells.  In addition, Dr. Newman teaches upper level undergraduate and graduate courses.  Dr. Newman started the seminar series in 2012 as way to meet other stem cell biologists in Louisiana.  The series has since grown and Dr. Newman still continues to organize the year-long series, providing opportunities for students, faculty, and the University to grow their research and professional networks.

Dr. Mary Caldorera-Moore

Dr. Mary Caldorera-Moore joined the Biomedical Engineering and Nanosystems Engineering faculty at Louisiana Tech University in the Fall of 2013.  Dr. Caldorera-Moore earned her BS in Biomedical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University and her MS and PhD from The University of Texas at Austin.  Dr. Caldorera-Moore has an active research lab composed of high school, undergraduate, and graduate research assistants that works on intelligent micro- and nanoscale biomaterials for the development new and improved biomimetic platforms for studying the influence chemistry, surface topography, and material properties play on the ability to response and release therapeutics or regeneration of tissue.  Upon joining the Tech faculty, Dr. Caldorera-Moore quickly became involved in the organization of the New Frontiers series.  She continues to organize and host speakers for the year-long series.
